COSTUME IN DETAIL - 1730-1930

by Nancy Bradfield

HARD COVER EDITION WITH DUST COVER FROM 1968

The first time I saw a copy of this book, it took my breath away!  I'll never part with it, but now I have found this copy from the large doll shop estate sale and I can share it with one of you doll costumers, the purist antique doll costumers.

This is a large book, measures 10-1/4" x 8-1/8" and is 391 pages thick.

This copy is in excellent condition for its almost 35 years of age.  The binding and book cover are all in good shape.  The dust cover has a torn corner and a tear at the bottom of the book back, but these can be repaired with tape.

NOW for the INSIDE!

This book is an invaluable source of information for those concerned with fashion, with period dress, with history, and with the theatre.

Many years of research into dresses, accessories, and underwear in Private Collections, have culminated in this remarkable fine set of highly skilled, well-documented drawings and detailed studies, which show not only the outside3 of the garment from various views, but the inside construction as well.

Only a mere handfull of the dresses or accessories featured in this book have been seen by the general public; some of them are too frail ever to be put on view.  Now, in these drawings and photographs, their delicate charm is preserved so that the dress can be studied from every aspect.

Costume in Detail contains over 360 full-page drawings and highly-detailed studies, together with a scholarly and informative text, and 12 pages of colour photographs of selected items.

All the pages and pages of garments are dated, documented, there is a descriptive summary of each dress and item.  All of the sewing details used in construction of the garment are fully illustrated.

Anyone sewing antique doll clothing, with the eye of a purist as to sewing and construction techniques, fabrics, etc. will simply not be able to put this book down.  Looking at the book at my side, I see two more pages I just have to include with this listing, but I already at capacity with photos, so I will have to eliminate one I've already added to the listing, so as to be able to add the latest ones I just came across and want you to see.  I shot two pages at once and you will find it at the end of the photos.  Isn't it something?

This is an incredible book, so beautifully, skillfully, and thoughtfully illustrated.

Be sure to ask questions before the final bid, because this will be a final sale.  Thank you.
