Beautiful Ancient Roman Bronze Figure of a Youthful Mercury.  The young Mercury stands on a double torus base with weight on his left--engaged--foot. The unengaged right foot is set slightly back with heel raised and ball off foot touching ground.  The stance creates a shift and tilt to the hips and shoulders. His right hand is extended in front of him holding a purse.  In is left hand --also extended he holds the caduceus with hand palm up and at shoulder.  The beautiful animated pose refers back to late Classical and Hellenistic art--Gorgeous.

He is depicted nude except for the chlamys pinned with a disc shape fibula at right shoulder draped around his shoulders and wrapped around his arm draping at the side and the diadem binding his hair.  His youthful body beautifully modulated musculature of a hero.

Height: 4-7/16 in. (11.2cm).

230.6 gm. weight.

Deep dark green patina with areas of lighter green.  Socket atop head held a separate winged petasos helmet, tip of caduceus missing right hand reattached at wrist.  Overall Excellent Condition--no restorations.

***The figure would have been placed in the shrine alongside the Lares and Penates to attract good fortune. ***
