AT AUCTION

A very rare and fine pair of saddle pommel holsters circa 1850 - 1865 used for horse cavalry during the Mexican & Civil Wars and on both sides Confederate & Union. The condition of these holsters is so very fine and supple I'll have to say they are in excellent condition and seem complete in all aspects. These are large holsters made for the .44 cal revolver called the "Hog Leg" . Each holster measures 14-15 " and has a large flap to protect pistols from the elements. You may see for reference a replica sized colt laying next to these holsters , not included nor are for sale. These measure folded out about 33" and appear to be pig skin . Very well made . These fell out of being issued and produced late in the Civil War as waist holsters became standard issue for the reason that a horse soldier wounded or knocked out of his saddle was many times leaving one or both pistols to be captured as well as the horse. For the advanced collector or reenactors these would be a fine set of holsters to own and use they are in such great condition. No marks that I can find . Buckles have the rollers of the period as well.

Super item - no reserve & good luck !
