The Cornet serial # is 2121, we could not find any resources of dating, but believe it is a early 1920’s or 1930’s era, anyone having information, please advise.
The J. W. Jenkins Music Company was founded in 1878 by John Woodward Jenkins or John Wesley Jenkins (1864-1932), in Kansas City, MO., located at 1013-1015 Walnut Avenue. The original name was The J. W. Jenkins Co., I believe the name of the Company was changed in the early 1920’s to the J. W. Jenkins Sons Music Co.
The J. W. Jenkins Company, was a major Kansas City Ragtime Publisher, and at one point the company had over sixteen stores in the Midwest and South. In 1902 the company moved to 10th and Walnut. Some of the Composers of Jenkins included; Charles L. Johnson, E. Harry Kelly, Euday Bowman, Ed Kuhn, Lucien Denny, Irene Cozad, and Mamie Williams.
The J.W. Jenkins Company was the most significant Kansas City publisher of sheet music, which was published from the 1880s to the 1940’s. In 1907 through 1911 were Jenkins biggest years of the ragtime publishing. Jenkins' Sons published on a national level and is perhaps best known as the publisher in 1915 of Euday L. Bowman's "Twelfth Street Rag." The collection includes several notable compositions, one of which is Scott Joplin's "Original Rags," published by the Carl Hoffman Music Company in 1899.
In the 1920's and 30's the J.W. Jenkins Music co. imported brass instruments made by Bohland & Fuchs Company, and I believe also from the Kohlert Company both based in Graslitz Czechoslovakia under the trade name of Harwood. Resources noted as advertised in 1922 for the Kohlert Company. We are not sure which company made this cornet, any information would be appreciated.

The hard case is the original wood case, with black material type covering, with leather handle.
Conditions, all noted from photo’s
The Cornet appears to be in good condition. I’m sure it needs a good professional cleaning and tuning. I can only find a few very small dents, (Please see circled photos), felts are fair – but I think should be replaced, finger valves work freely and seem tight. There seems to be two slide valves stuck. There is tarnishing and some discoloration, and a few light surface scratches. The small knob on the forward slide came un-soldered, and was glued back on.
The case is in fair to good condition, has normal wear, the red and green velvet inside material has rubs and some stain spots. The outside of the case has several dents, nicks in covering, hinges are loose, the case has no keys.
One mouth piece the 6B Vincent Bach, has some dents and dings, and some discoloration.
One mouth piece is brass and has light scratches and dings, some discoloration.
The cornet and case both have vintage storage smell.
