JADE GEMSTONE :  TRANSLUCENT HETIAN WHITE JADE

DESCRIPTION : A most radiant Semi-Translucent HETIAN WHITE Nephrite Jade gemstone was worked by the hands of a Ching Dynasty jade carver into shape of a SHOU XIN THE IMMORTAL PA WAN JADE. This is a Jade amulet that depicts the leader of the 8 Immortals that is found in the ancient legends from the Taoist Buddhist religious mythology. This is a beautiful SHOU XIN THE IMMORTAL PA WAN JADE treasure that exhibits wonderful translucency and a radiant WHITE color. The detail of the carving is a Taoist inspiration, as it leaves an observer with the thought that this Jade gemstone is indeed an Immortal treasure. This immortal is depicted with extremely long eyebrows. The carving expresses the belief in the 8 Immortals and the concept of humanities search for the elixir of immortality. In Chinese, "Shou Xin" means "Star of Longevity". He is both an immortal and a powerful symbol of long life. HISTORY : This SHOU XIN THE IMMORTAL AMULET jade carving was probably made for a Scholars desk during the Ching Dynasty. For thousands of years, Chinese scholars were primarily men, greatly esteemed by their society, who were also collectors of high quality and sophisticated art objects; some functional, some inspirational and most small enough to decorate a scholar's desk or complement his study. This ancient Jade treasure is sure to turn a desktop or a collection into a gallery of beauty. Legendary Taoist Immortals, seven male and one female, are said to have originated in the Han Dynasty (Western Han, 206 BC-240 BC). The figures are recognizable by their attributes: Shou Xin with peach, Zhang Guolao with a frog-shaped musical instrument (foreground), Lu Dongbin with a sword and a fly-whisk, Cao Guojiu with a pair of tablets resembling castanets, Li Tieguai with an iron crutch, Han Xiangzi with a flute, Lan Caihe with a flower basket and He Xianggu with a lotus. The Eight immortals every few thousand years, journeys to the peach tree of immortality to eat its fruit. This magic tree with its immortal peach gives the immortals their ability to transcend mortality. All eight have supernatural powers and can be invisible to humans. In the ancient Taoist concept of the world it is the eight immortals that influence humanity and its course toward a destiny within the cosmos.
