RARE LOUIS XV1 18thc. NEOCLASSICAL SOFA in AUBUSSON NEEDLEPOINT TAPESTRY. What a great find here. It does appear to be of the period or 2nd period with the very early, Aubusson fabric, which possibly is original or from the 19thc. The piece is hand carved and gessoed with gilt. The sofa is stuffed with horsehair and later springs have been added. What a great example of early French furniture. It does need restoration and some help, but still a very nice example of both craftmanship in furniture making and tedious, hand needlepoint tapestry skills. Size: 74.5" long by 43" tall, by 26" deep and 20" to the top of the cushion. The Aubusson fabric is very delicate, worn and fragile on the seat location (please do not sit on is advisable) and the back section shows wear, but is flexible and in much better condition. A fabric patch is seen on one arm. Back shows exposed horse hair and lining. Springs are loose and need work. The wood frame shows gilt losses, chips to the tops of the middle carvings, small piece of trim gone around one leg. One medallion has been reattached. Shows wear, scratches, losses and needs help overall. Still, after all that, a great example that is worthy of the restoration or one can show it off just as it stands. Wonderful Aubusson tapestry of super fine needlepoint and fine detail. Help yourself. Same estate for decades. Please ask questions before bidding. Shipping and handling to be paid by the buyer.
