Here's a very Rare Museum Quality Cornet coming from that same quality collection of fine horns! This one is a Besson Presentation Cornet! Serial number 85023 putting the year to 1904. This horn was presented to J.C. Murphy and his name is fancily engraved on the bell. Also engraved is: "Class A Lephyr". Heavy engraving from the edge of the bell to the turn in the crook, very nice! This is a key changing cornet. It plays in 6 keys! All tuning crooks (2) are original Besson and both slide in perfectly as do the extra lead pipes. This horn is set up to play in standard Bb. This is totally original antique instrument. Everything included is the original Besson part supplied when the cornet was new. The lyre is not original but the screw is. These are notorious for missing. Looks to have had no repairs done to it and there is some minor finish wear where J.C. Murphy has held it. Adds to the age petina! Again, the engraving is fantastic! The name J.C. Murphy is surrounded by beautiful scrolls and flowers, then the engraving travels up the bell past the valves and to the bell bow. It's incredibly detailed! The photos don't really do it justice. This is truly a special horn! Plays wonderful like these old Besson do. Comes in the original case with the extras.
