A fine and rare early map of the state of New Jersey in mat and frame,1814.The orinial map was engraved in 1795 based upon information from Samuel Lewis, engraved by W.Barker.Revised in 1811 and again in 1814 with new towns/sites added. This one I believe to be the 1814 edition and it is indeed original.Aged beautifully like an antique treasure map but retaining stupendous detail and hand tinted borders.Professionally matted and framed in acid-free paper, ready to hang in the gentleman`s library or in a prominent position in the household. In as found condition, with some areas of tear/loss but well preserved and a stupendous piece of American post-Revolutionary cartography.Dotted with many of the original site names still unchanged, others with melodic old place names now lost to antiquity. The origanal place names of my own youth,Bonhamtown and Samptown are now incorporated under the name of Edison,a pity to lose such beautiful titles in the name of progress.
A fine and true rare antique map from the early 19th century depicting a state that played a major role in the founding of our nation.Masterfully done in superb detail and hand tinting.A Lewis/Barker map dating to the year 1814.
