IMPORTANT PAIR OF SIGNED HAWKES INTAGLIO CUT GRAVIC GLASS DECANTERS *

Offered for sale are a magnificent matched pair of Intaglio DEEP CUT Gravic Glass Decanters / Scent Bottles. They are both signed on the bottom " HAWKES  GRAVIC GLASS". This lovely pair comes from a private estate in the Cooperstown N.Y.  area were they have been for many years. Both have very deep cut designs with   each haveing  three large flowers surrounding the base with fern type floral decoration  from the neck to the bottom of the base. I don't know the pattern or Hall Mark but hope you collectors will be able to identify them. The sterling silver stoppers  are Hall Marked & numbered " STERLING D1546" and are nicely engraved. One stopper has a small flat area from probably being dropped and takes a lot of finesse to get it snug. ( The glass portion looks like it was replaced), the same bottle has a small chip on the rim.  The other decanter is in very good condition but naturally have been used and enjoyed showing normal age evident wear.    Please see all our pictures...( Our pictures are part of our description ).  Even with the few imperfection these are two nice Important American examples of glass making at it's finest and they will make  fine addition's to any collection. Size is about 5 1/4" high with stopper X about  5 " Dia.. both weigh 4lbs. Please email any questions. FREE shipping U.S.A...International shipping will be actual cost calculated at the close of auction. Payment expected within 4 days from close of auction. Thank you for looking .

The Hawkes Rich Cut Glass Works was established in 1880 in Corning, New York. Hawkes Company epitomized the finest in cut glass production. Hawkes offered various styles of engraving, including relief (the design is raised above the background) and intaglio (the design is cut below the surface). Hawkes' intaglio glass carried a separate trademark and was known as Gravic Glass. During the early years of operation, the Hawkes Company obtained the majority of its blanks from the Steuben Glass Works, a Corning firm that Thomas Hawkes, Frederick Carder and others founded in 1903. Steuben was established mainly to make blanks for Hawkes, however, art glass, similar to the quality of Tiffany's, was also made there. When the Steuben Glass Works was sold to Corning Glass Works in the 20s, Hawkes continued to purchase most of its colored blanks from the Steuben Division of Corning Glass.
