RARE PHOTO OF BIRKENHEAD FERRY "LANCASHIRE" DATE c1880



















This is an extremly interesting old sepia photo of the Birkenhead ferry "Lancashire", dating from around 1880.

In its original solid brass frame, and accompanied by information from the Merseyside County Museums service (dated 1976), identifying the boat as one built by C.J. Mare and Co.; the boat was in service 1865 to 1894.

The photo is described by the Museum's assessor as "  . . . an extremly good example of a typical 'local scene' . . . ".

On reverse there is a photographers' stamp - Valentine and Son - plus the original owner's name and an indistinct date - 29 June 1881???

CONDITION - both the frame and the photo are in very good condition.

DIMENSIONS - 7.75" by 6.25"
