History as Per the Piano Atlas:

Sohmer and Co., Inc. Est. 1872 by Hugo Sohmer and K. Kuder when they purchased the Marshall and Mittaur piano factory. In 1931 the factory was located in
Astoria on Long Island and offices in the Sohmer building, 31 W. 57th St. NY. Later moved to 11-02 31st. Ave, Long Island City, NY. Hugo's son Henry J. Controlled the company until his death in 1971, with his sone Harry J. Sohmer Jr. President, and Robert Sohmer, Vice President. The family sold the company to Pratt Reed & Co. in 1982. Also made the Primrose piano.

There is a lot more information about what happened to the company after 1982, but I will leave that to someone who types better than I do. Bottom line is that after changing a number of hands, Sohmer ended up as a part of the Mason and Hammlin group, production stopped in 1994,the name was sold to Kirk and Gary Burgett in 1996 with plans to resume production
