It was in 1879 that Phillip Rosenthal began painting and trading porcelain at Castle Schloss Erkersreuth close to the city of Selb, Germany. Twelve years later the company started to manufacture its own complete porcelain service-sets and it has not looked back since. 2004 saw Rosenthal celebrate its 125th anniversary, an impressive achievement that few companies can lay claim to.
It is from the unique tension between innovation and tradition that Rosenthal has developed. Throughout its history Rosenthal has never lost sight of the importance of innovation, striving always to reflect the aesthetic currents of the eras it has lived through. This is reflected in Rosenthal's guiding principle, "Das Originale unserer Zeit" (the original of our times). It is by endeavoring to live up to this ideal that the company has managed not only to survive, but remain vibrant and fascinating, a force to be reckoned with on the international design scene. With over 400 awards, numerous references in international museums, outlets in 97 countries, and the biggest designer database of any private company world-wide, Rosenthal have plenty of evidence to attest to their sensational success.
Rosenthal signifies the utmost in sophisticated tabletop culture. Its products express everlasting values that transcend trends and defy cultural boundaries. Here is table and home decor that is lucid and practical in shape. The full collection is both diverse and versatile, with porcelain and glassware to complement all interiors and celebrate all seasons. Rosenthal cast an unforgettable spell over visitors with the unique magic it brings to the table.
The Daphne pattern is one of the more desirable patterns in the Pompadour style by Rosenthal because of it's beauty and scarcity. The Pompadour shape was only in production from 1950 to 1964 (14yrs). The Daphne Lavender pattern itself is scarce due to the fact that it was mostly available for sale in Germany and only produced from 1961-1963, a total of only 3 years.
This set was brought back to the US from Germany. The pattern is done on an Ivory Pompadour blank, trimed heavily in gold. It consists of Lavender and Gold Dahlias circling the china. Absolutely stunning!
