You are viewing a vintage Russel Wright Covered Butter Dish from the American Modern dinnerware line. This is in the hard-to-find Cedar Green color, which is a beautiful mid-tone drab green with darker flecks of color within the glaze. American Modern was produced by Steubenville between 1939-1959, and we would date this piece to be from about 1950. This butter dish is one of the most unusual designs in the line, and also one of the hardest to find in such excellent condition as this. The ergonomically shaped lid has four purposeful unglazed surfaces on each underside corner, which helped to keep the lid stable while sitting on the base, as well as keep the glaze from flaking off when touching. Both pieces are in excellent condition...no cracks, chips, flaws or even any crazing. This pieces was likely never (or rarely) used. This piece is unmarked, as there was not enough room on the underside to strike the impressed markings from the line. It is guaranteed vintage...purchased from a collector that amassed pieces for 30+ years. This would be an excellent addition to a beloved Russel Wright collection, given it's condition. The lid measures approx 8"L x 3 3/4"W x 1 3/4"T...base measures approx 8 1/2"L x 3 1/2"W x 2"T. Please ask all questions before bidding. Refer to shipping tab for shipping method/fees.
