RCA 91-A Announce Base for 44-B or 44-BX Microphone

This is a cast iron replica of the famous RCA 91-A Announce Pedestal base for the 44-B and 44-BX microphones. It is made exactly the same way as the original RCA bases, and the process is actually documented on Stan Coutant’s excellent vintage microphone web site.

The bases are available in either black or umber gray. They have the year (2004) and a foundry mark (R) to differentiate them from original bases. They were made using a new precision hardwood pattern of the top and bottom surfaces. Measurements from an original base were used to make the wooden pattern. This is the way RCA made the bases.

These bases are great for displaying for 44 mikes, or for storing them when not in use, with our cloth protective zipper bags over them, of course (see our other listings for 44, 77, and 74 protective bags).

After casting, the bases were machined, and then professionally painted with a thick gray primer, and a top coat of either 40 per cent gloss black or umber gray. The bases were baked at 400 degrees F to harden the finish. The powder-coat paint finish is highly resistant to scratching and chipping.

The original “stamped metal with felt” feet are no longer available from any manufacturer, but we have substituted gray rubber feet that screw into the base with machine screws, similar to the original feet. A replica label on the bottom of the base is the finishing touch.

Your 44 microphone must have the shock mount and the three screws at the bottom of the mount in order to install the microphone in this base.

This is a quality product, made in the USA (Portland, Oregon) and is as close to a real 91-A as you can get. It has the same markings on the bottom, and is the same weight and material as the old RCA bases. Each base weighs almost 4 pounds.
