Your bidding on a REAL 57 Fender P Bass. This is NOT a re-issue. The date inside the pickup well is penciled in and reads 11-57. The serial number plate is the fairly rare double stamped plate, and the numbers match the 11-57 build date. A few years ago I sent pictures to fender, and they confirmed that the dates match a November 1957 build. I have owned this bass for 25 years. It was used for playing out as well as studio work, so there have been some changes made. The Pickups and wiring were replaced with correct Fender factory replacements. It was done a while ago, and I've been unable to find the originals. The silver you see in the wiring cut out is aluminum foil. Its and old trick to help reduce signal noise because the fabric wrapped wiring is not sheilded. The bass is in natural finish now, but I believe it was originally starburst. The previous owner had it stripped to natural before I got it. In the picture of the head stock you will see a small crack at the "E" string tuner. It's been there the whole time I've owned it and has never been a problem at all. The rod in the neck moves freely and works as it should. I do not have the original case. This bass has the typical dings and nicks you would expect from a 50 year old guitar, but nothing deep. This would be a great foundation for a restorer, or anyone looking for a vintage piece of true American rock and roll history. I realize this is not a pure collectors piece due to the non-original pickups, and lack of the original case, so the reserve is not some crazy number. I'm just a guy with a nice old bass, not a store or collector trying to get huge money. I have a reasonable idea of what it's worth so please don't e-mail with low-ball numbers, and I will absolutly not part it out. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Shipping will be actual cost and will be shipped in any manner at the buyers request. I will accept Pay-Pal, but due to the potential high dollar amount, I would prefer check or money order, or of course cash if the item is to be picked up. I will only ship to the US unless contacted first.
