Why not a membrane keypad?
Because it's half the job....

Membrane keypads are cheaper, easier to make, but in no way the best choice.

Membrane keypads do not fix ALL the buttons
Membrane keypads do not significantly increase contact size - the #1 problem!
A small button contact only pushes down in a small area.
Membrane keypads can short out, freezing ALL of your buttons! Not just the #1 key any more!
Membrane keypads block the silicone oil from the # keys but not the rest of the buttons.
Membrane keypads still rely on the known defective keypad with small contacts and heavy oil buildup.
The oil can cause problems with your microphone and charger terminals.
When a membrane keypad uses painted contacts (like the Pad-Mate™) the paint will scrape off eventually causing keypad failure or worse... complete keypad lock-up.
