THANK YOU FOR VIEWING THIS AUCTION

About me: Living in Florida, especially in the Tampa,St.Petersburg area has given me great opportunities to treasure hunt.I go to estate sales, garage sales, antique malls and auction houses. As with every Sunday count on me being at the flea market by 6:30 am.I have done this for over 20 years now.I have hoarded to where I can not hoard no more. So,I am offering for the first time these collector items on ebay. I hope you enjoy bidding on and  looking at the things I have collected over the years.

Good Luck and Happy Bidding...

Up for Auction here is:   A early 19th century American Pennsylvania school girl hand wrought sampler circa 1824.As far as antique samplers go,it honestly does not get any better than the sampler I have up for auction here. This important historic Pennsylvania sampler has a beautiful flower and vine border wrought in blue, yellow and black silk onto a fine linen. The first two lines of the sampler reads: Rebecca Carman began this work May 3 1824.There are wonderful punctuated accent designs after the date followed by her initials RJC.The third and fourth lines of the sampler has the alphabet stitched into the linen followed by the numbers 1-28.The alphabet is stitched into this wonderful antique sampler six more times all in different type stitching.Below the alphabet are two wonderful verses that read:Ye maidens much to much presuming  On your boasted white and red  view them later in beauty blooming   numbered now among the dead. The second verse reads:A receipe for a ladies dress pattern  Let your head dress be wisdom  Your ear rings prudence  Your necklace and ruffs good humor  Your b ? modest  Your finger rings and gloves industry.Below the two verses reads:Rebecca Jane Carman daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Carman was born September 10 181.If was common for  women to remove the last 1 or 2 digits in their birth year on samplers they stitched as young girls as they got older so no one would know their exact age.Wrought into this sampler is a three story house with 14 windows and 2 attic windows. On either side of the house is a wrought iron fence, flowering trees with birds,a flag atop a flag pole and two urns with plants.Near the bottom right reads:Finished work Oct 30 1824.The quality of the stitching in this sampler is superb. This young school girl truly shows her skills in this early 19th century Pennsylvania sampler. This American school girl sampler wrought in Pennsylvania is the finest American samplers I have ever seen, anywhere.I acquired this sampler many years ago from the last remaining heir to the William McPhan Brown estate.William M. Brown was Republican Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania from 1903-1907.In 1914 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, but died before he could take office. This wonderful antique sampler had been in the Brown family for nearly 175 years until I was able to acquired it.I was able to barter and purchase many of the remaining items from the estate including his commissioned portrait painting by well known listed American artist Albert Rosenthal. This is truly a superb piece of historical Americana. There is minor loss of stitching in a few areas but nothing major. There are no tears or staining. There is age discoloration consistent with a 180+ year old  sampler. The colors still remain very vibrant. This sampler is large measuring 24" x 24".A wonderful early Pennsylvania school girl sampler by Rebecca Jane Carman circa 1824. ****Please see my other auctions for more antiques, collectables and other items of interest.
