REUBEN WILSON - "A Groovy Situation"
Blue Note (BST 84365). Original 1970 FIRST PRESSING ('Liberty/ UA' blue & black label; 'Van Gelder' stamp in dead wax). Reuben on Hammond B3 organ; funky and groovy soul jazz with plenty of familiar samples.
Record look VG++, plays NM. Labels are Near Mint. Cover is a nice VG+; pretty clean, overall good seams and spine but a little softening seams at the ends (top seam has a 2" pre-split area @ corner of opening end - it's okay now but will split if handled roughly; bottom right corner is creased; front cover has very light ringwear; back cover doesn't.

Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine: Much like its predecessor, Blue Mode, A Groovy Situation finds organist Reuben Wilson turning in a funky collection of R&B and pop covers. Supported by guitarist Eddie Diehl, alto saxophonist Earl Turbinton, and drummer Harold White, Wilson runs through familiar soul hits like ("If You Let Me Make Love to You) Then Why Can't I Touch You," "A Groovy Situation," and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," plus the Turtles hit "Happy Together." With songs like this, there's no question that Wilson is going for a wide audience, and while these smooth, funky grooves will do nothing for jazz purists, it's an entertaining record, and some of the grooves are quite hot indeed.
