City in Terror! Monster Escapes!

 
Here's a nice example of 50's ad art from Jack Arnold's 1955 Universal Scifi/Horror Classic sequel
( Originally in 3-D) to 'Creature from the Black Lagoon'
After 15 million years, it is the last Devonian age survivor of its species ~ a humanoid-man-fish
captured by its love for 'Beauty', & brought back to civilization to be studied & displayed as a sideshow attraction he eventually breaks free and runs amok ~
the film has many exciting sequences, to include a scene where the Creature escapes his holding pond at 'Marine Land', & drives a large crowd into a frenzied panic,
climaxing with the Creature overturning a classic '50s car ~ Scenes such as this are where this sequel exceeds the original ~ a great continuation of one of
Hollywood's original & most memorable Beauty & the Beast films. The astonishingly realistic makeup for the Gillman was created by Universal's Bud Westmore who
also did makeup for IT Came From Outer Space, Soylent Green, The Monolith Monsters, The Mole People, & Tarantula, to name but a few ~ All out of & above water scenes
were performed this time by Tom Hennessy again, as in the original, underwater scenes were done by Olympic swimmer Ricou Browning
Browning used an air hose to breathe, which he dropped to film the scenes. Browning went on to a career as an underwater cinematographer & was the creator of Flipper.
He also choreographed the underwater battle sequence in James Bond's Thunderball. Gorgeous underwater sequences, ground breaking for its era & budget, still rival many
of today's films an atmospheric & stylish, low-budget feature, with a great soundtrack that's completely 50's scifi. All in all, this sequel is another Gill-Man Monster
Masterpiece ~ its success brought us another sequel, ' The Creature Walks Among Us' ~
The classic starred scifi notable John Agar, Helen Dobson, Joseph Hayes, & great character actor Nestor Paiva ~ look out for Clint Eastwood in his first
screen role as lab technician ~ A true film for the scifi Afficinado ~
