RI-265 - 1/24th Dollar (Three Pence) - PCGS CH-58PPQ (perfect paper quality) - Rhode Island Colony - May 22, 1777

High Grade:

Easily an uncirculated specimen that would have graded a 64 but the left lower boarder is cut at a slight angle and I was told that it was down graded for this. However, I have seen many notes by PMG graded 64 where the borders are lightly cut. Perhaps a submission to PMG will give this the 64 it deserves.
Just look at how beautiful this note is.

A True Rarity!
Why is this series so rare?
An emission of only $15,000 (£4,500) in legal tender small change bills of credit were printed, payable by March 22, 1785. That includes all nine denominations.

The Friedberg guide lists the uncirculated price at $1,850.00 and the newly released Early Paper Money Of America Guide by Newman lists the XF (45) price at $1500.00, with no value given for higher due to rarity.

Only three examples of this note have ever been graded.

Some important history about this note:
Very little is known about this series due to a lack of examples but I can say that only a single signature was required on the few examples I have seen.

The front was printed in black ink with border cuts by an unknown engraver. We can say for certain that this emission was printed  in Providence.
There are four ornamental border cuts. The top border includes "Three Pence".
Numbering box is centered below the top border cut. "One Twenty-Fourth of a Dollar" is directly below.

The reverse of this note is blank.

This is a rare and magnificent note, worthy of the world's finest collections.
