What is the difference
between the red resetter and the newest blue one (The RKS home model in this auction is 4th version, just out in February 2009)?
There are 4 major differences:
1) The new RKS blue resetter has four screws in the bottom plate
so you can remove it and replace the battery when necessary.
2) RKS found that some of the old red resetter circuit boards
were running hot, and burned out after so many resets, they
went from the original circuit board to a third version in blue with three small batteries instead of the one big one, to correct the issue.But the NEWEST BLUE Resetter in this auction has a completely reconstructed circuit board with one large lithium battery making the most efficient RKS resetter to date, outside of their Professional models. 4) Previously the adapter for the cli-8 cartridges only sat in place,
and if you did not hold the unit correctly, it could slip. In the new units,
the adapter now has two bars that go into two holes in the resetter,
thus the adapter is held in place and it cannot slip out at all.
Overall a better design.

compatible cartridges and leave the original ones in its place? A: Yes. You can alter some of them and leave the original
cartridges in its place.

Q: I am considering buying one of these for my Canon Pixma MP520. I assume it will work on these cartridges.PGI 5BK, Cli 8 etc. My question is what exactly do I need do in order to get this to work and is there a limited amount of times that I can reset each tank. On my old Canon I refilled indefinitely but I realize they did not have the chip. A: This resetter is really easy to use. If you have an original Canon Cartridge with the chip still attached, you simply place the cartridge with the chip facing bottom (like when you put it into your printer) and press it into place. The unit will flash a steady led light when the chip has been reset - it takes about 5 seconds. You do exactly the same thing if you have a remanufactured or compatible cart which you have attached a chip too. There is no limit to how many times you can reset the chip on any tank or how many times you can refill it. I have spoken to some people who have had their canon printers for years and still continue to refill the original ink cartridges. As you know, it is only recently that Canon has added chips to their printers, so that is why a resetter now is important to have. Especially if you have a multifunction printer which includes a fax machine, because it will not print out the faxes automatically if the chip in your cartridge has not been reset.
Q: Hi, I have read the original redsetter V.2 has a newer firmware, does your unit compare to it?? I am looking to buy a resetter and doing the research to find the best unit available.
A: RKS is the original engineer of the red resetter and their upgrade is this blue one we offer in this auction. The old red one had a problem due to the one battery system. On some of the units, resetting 10 or more cartridges in a row, burned the circuit board. So RKS redesigned the unit and re-configured it for a three battery system, which solved the problem. They also changed the activation process to a much more stable one. The removed the old angled rocker activator, to the new button and pin system, which is much easier to use. Also they added greater stability to the small cli-8 adapter by giving it little bars that hook into the unit, so it no longer will slip when you press. The good news is we are the exclusive US distributor for RKS, so if you buy from us, you get the full 2 year replacement warranty. If your unit fails, it is an easy return and we replace it. If during that period, they upgrade (they are planning another upgrade in 2009) and we are sold out of the older models, you will receive the upgrade. We are very easy to work with, just a phone call away, and RKS is a phenomenal company.
Q: Hi, 2 questions 1. are the chips interchangeable, 2. what happens, after 1500 resets, does the unit die? change the batteries?
A: The chips from any canon ink cartridge are specific to the color. For example the CLI-8Y, is a cli-8 yellow color chip and can only work for the yellow cartridge in your printer. If you put where the Magenta cartridge goes, your printer will not recognize it. So as far as color is concerned they are specific. But all cli-8y chips are interchangeable.
As to how long a battery will last - RKS tells me that these new batteries can last for 5,000 resets. But if they die, they are easy to replace. When you receive your resetter you also receive an instruction sheet for replacing the batteries. They are the small hearing aid button type easily available and very low in price. If the unit stops working, unscrew the base (there are four screws on the bottom) and change the three button batteries, then it should be good for another 5,000 resets.
If your unit stops working within two years, and changing the batteries does not help, then you should remove the new batteries, put the old ones back in, and send it back to me. And we will send you a brand new one. That is why you have a full two year replacement warranty. We are easily accessible by email, through ebay, and by phone. And you will receive a printed warranty with all the contact info on it and the date of purchase, so you will have no problem with your warranty. Also if you lose the warranty sheet, still not a problem, you can find us here, or at inkjetreset.com, pick up the phone or email, and we will check your warranty status. We keep these on file. Q: Do you need to attach the resetter to a Canon printer in order to reset the chips? Does the chip resetter work for all PGI-5 and CLI-8 ink cartridges, including the red and green ink cartridge?
A: No, the resetter works independently of the printer. You simply place the ink cartridge with the chip on the pins, and hold it tightly. An LED red light will come on and when it stays on steady for about 5 seconds the chip is reset. Then just refill the ink tank, put it back in the printer and the printer will recognize it as a new Canon Cartridge. And yes, our resetters both the OM and the RKS will reset all the cli-8 and pgi-5 inks including the new red and green ones.
Q: Hi Michele, what is the difference between the 3 different priced resetter units that you offer.
A: Here's the skinny on the resetters: The lower priced OM comes with a one year warranty, and cannot be used with chip extenders, since the adapters for the chip extenders only come with the RKS resetter. The RKS units come with a full two year warranty, they are designed by RKS, the original developer of this technology, and because we get them from Germany, they are more expensive then the OM units which come from Hong Kong. If some of either brand are priced higher, it is just a problem with the mark down manager. We do our best to offer the lowest price possible. Our margin on these units is very small.
Q: Will refilling my inkjet cartridge void the manufacturer's warranty on my printer?
A: Answer: No.Refilling your inkjet cartridge does not tamper with your printer in any way, and therefore does not effect your warranty. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act, the consumer is allowed the right to choose any consumable they desire for their printer, and allowed to make any repairs to the printer cartridge they deem necessary. This allows for the use of refill kits and compatible cartridges.
