Here's another consequence of my new home (and flesh-eating mortgage): I'm forced to sell my original (22x28) half-sheet from ROBOT MONSTER. This is the poster tailored for the movie's maiden (1953) release in 3D. Damn! The art says it all! There's Ro-Man wearing the fish bowl (aka helmet) that was probably discounted at Petsmart...there's a city in panic (intensely translated on film as scratchy stock footage)...there's dinosaurs in turmoil (stock footage of pissy lizards that turn-up in more bad movies than John Carradine)...there's careers in turmoil...and 3 friggin' D. Everytime I look at this poster, I remember Ro-Man's immortal dialogue ("I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do 'must' and 'cannot' meet? Yet I must - but I cannot!"). Shoot, it makes me forget everything about Nietzsche that I barely remember from college. Anyway, the poster is in excellent condition, barely a crease (I had it locked in a frame behind sun-resistant glass); it'll be forwarded, in a tube, to whomever carries-on the legacy. Satisfaction guaranteed or moola back. Lemme repeat my familiar refrain: this poster is an original, not a reissue or a duplicate. Collecting (original) movie posters is more than a hobby to me, it's a passion--and I hope that passion is reflected in my care and preservation of the posters. While I appreciate the designs for (horror) movie posters released during the 1930s and 1940s (particularly CAT PEOPLE and the cool art deco style developed for THE WALKING DEAD), I love pulp art--and that was what 1950s were all about (posters and ads that pitched B-flix, which were flashed at drive-ins for a weekend). And the ROBOT MONSTER half-sheet epitomizes the pulps in spades. As you may have noticed from the photos on this page, the ROBOT MONSTER half-sheet is a pretty powerful aphrodisiac; I mean, it just draws hot babes out of the woodwork (I suspect that's another reason I have to lose it...my wife is beginning to notice). Ro-Man is just a bigger babe magnet than Edd "Kookie" Byrnes. Anyway, let the auction begin; best of luck, amigos.
