This vintage Rolex Daytona has quite a list of attractive qualities:
Condition is as new and the watch has its box and original certificate "papers". The original case back sticker is intact and in perfect condition
Color change black dial; where the original white subdial chapter rings are turning brown in color. This dial shows a light browning which will darken over time
Zenith El Primero based chronograph caliber which Rolex modified/refined. Rolex took the best chronograph movement made and made it even better
The movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer which means it keeps time within a very narrowly defined range; a fancy way for saying that it keeps very accurate time regardless of the watch's position or climate exposures
Water resistant to 100 meters
The case is stainless steel and is 40mm diameter by 13mm thick and features the characteristic screw down Trip Lock crown and chronograph pushers. The bezel is engraved with a "Units per Hour" scale that ranges from '60' to '400'. Crystal is sapphire. Serial number is U699XXX which dates production to 1997.
Movement is the aforementioned Rolex Caliber 4030 which is a Rolex modified Zenith El Primero base caliber. If one ever needed proof that Rolex is a perfectionist, they need look no further than Rolex's selection of and modifications to the El Primero. The Zenith El Primero was, and is, recognized as being the best large series production chronograph caliber ever made. Rolex used the El Primero in their Daytona watches, but not before doing extensive upgrades and refinements.
Dial is black with the color change sub dial chapter rings (also known as Patrizzi dial) and "Daytona" in red arcing over the lower subdial. The subdials display: 30 minute chronograph totalizer, 12 hour chronograph totalizer, and constant seconds. The dial and hands are completely original and untouched and in perfect condition.
Bracelet is the great looking Rolex Oyster reference 78390 with 12 links and flip-lock clasp.
This is a special watch and will be delivered with its original box and papers.
