ROSEANNE: ROSEANNE BARR, JOHN GOODMAN and OTHERS Script from the episode, "The Test", signed on the front cover by Barr, Goodman, and follow cast members Gilbert, Fishman, Metcalf, Goranson and Quinn
Script signed: "Roseanne", "John/Goodman", "Sara Gilbert", "Michael/Fishman", "Lecy Goranson", "Laurie Metcalf", "Glenn Quinn", 8½x11 50p. Two additional signatures have overwritten each other and are not legible. Complete script of the first episode of Season 3, "The Test," dated September 18, 1990. Roseanne, which ran from 1988 to 1997, was the first sitcom since I Love Lucy centered on the mother of the family instead of the father. But the similarities between the two ended there. The Conner family in Roseanne was middle class and blue-collar and was depicted with honesty and brassiness rarely seen on TV and dealt with real-life issues, like poverty, domestic violence and the budding sexuality of the family's children. The show earned an armful of Emmy nominations for its actors and crew, culminating in back-to-back Emmy Awards between 1992 and 1994 for LAURIE METCALF, who played Roseanne Conner's sister Jackie Harris, and a 1993 Best Actress win for ROSEANNE BARR. Barr, also known simply as Roseanne and signing that way here, played the title role. She has also made innumerable other appearances on TV on both talk shows and as a guest star on other series and has appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies and feature films, including She-Devil (1989), Look Who's Talking Too (1990, voice), Blue in the Face (1990) and Home on the Range (2004, voice). She has won four American Comedy Awards and an Emmy Award (nominated for the latter five additional times). Thrice married and divorced, Roseanne has often attracted controversy, as in her clowning during a pre-game performance of the national anthem. Stage, screen and television actor GOODMAN, born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1952, is best known to television audiences for his role as Dan Conner on the series, for which he won a Golden Globe in 1993 and was nominated for three more (1989, 1990, 1991), seven Emmy Awards (1989-1995) and a SAG Award (1995). He would later star in four other series, Now and Again (1999-2000), Normal, Ohio (2000), Father of the Pride (voice, 2004-2005) and Center of the Universe (2004-2005). Goodman's big screen credits include Raising Arizona (1987), Sea of Love (1989), Barton Fink (1991), The Flintstones (1994), Blues Brothers 2000 (1998), The Big Lebowski (1998), Bringing Out the Dead (1999), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), Coyote Ugly (2000) and Beyond the Sea (2004), and he has also lent his voice talents to The Emperor's New Groove (2000) and The Jungle Book 2 (2003). Goodman has also appeared on Broadway, including a role as a member of the original cast of the 1985 musical, Big River. On TV's The West Wing, Goodman played the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives who assumed the US Presidency temporarily under the terms of the 25th Amendment. MICHAEL FISHMAN, who played D. J. Connor throughout all the seasons of Roseanne, made guest appearances on other series, including Seinfeld (1997) and Walker, Texas Ranger (1999). SARAH GILBERT (Darlene Conner to Roseanne Fans) has since made recurring appearances on several TV series, including 24 (2002), ER (2004-2007) and The Big Bang Theory (2007-2009). ALICIA (LECY) GORANSON, Becky Conner on the series, later appeared in Sex and the City and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (both 2004), among other roles. Irish actor GLENN QUINN, Becky's husband Mark on Roseanne, had an important role on Angel before dying of a heroin overdose in 2002. File holes and two binding brads at left margin.
