ROSENBERG GOLEM PRAGUE JUDAICA KABBALAH MYSTICISM 1909

This is a famous Yiddish book which inspired many a play and film. It is called the Wonders of the Maharal referring to Rabbi  Yehudah Bezalel Loewe of Prague who lived in the 16th Century.  This Rabbi created the famous Golem of Prague. The writer, Rabbi Yudel Rosenberg was the "Chief Rabbi" of Canada and the grandfather of the writer Mordecai Reichler. Like his grandson, Rosenberg wrote fiction which in some circles became fact. There is controversy if indeed the Golem existed, but one thing we do know, the stories of the Golem and  Rabbi Loew became ever so popular after Rosenberg published them.

He printed several editions in Hebrew and Yiddish which this is an example of in Yiddish (I do have somewhere a Hebrew edition as well). Most of the copies were read from cover to cover and passed around till they fell apart. This one managed to escape the ravages of time and comes to you complete and in very good condition despite the browning pages. I've seen editions of this book go for $300 at Judaica auctions, so the price that I am starting at is quite reasonable.

Another important point which I should make is that the last page in this book Rosenberg makes the following statement: "ANNOUNCEMENT TO BOOKSELLERS: I do hereby declare to all book sellers that in the city of Metz by the same  Chayyim Scharfstein whom I bought by him the book Niflaos HaMaharal, is also available in a large manuscript from the Maharal of Prague on the value of the Holy Shabbos called "Gedulas Yisroel". The manuscript contains more than 100 pages, and its origin also comes from the same Royal library :) that existed there. The price for this manuscript is 800 crowns. This particular copy was printed in Piterkov 1909. Original binding, boards detached, pages clean.
