Are the sides on that piece straight, MissLynette? Yes. It's a trick of camera perspective which makes it appear otherwise.
MLN 0924.02 / 2 of 4 Pc John/Ralph Widdicomb Bedroom Set / Vanity & Mirror
ATTRIBUTES: Superb flame mahogany Empire-inspired vanity/dressing table with handsome smooth-sliding solid oak dovetailed drawers parading down the front. There's a black accent around the drawers, ormolu on the feet, fluted trim, a broad expanse of a top in great shape, and an exceptional detached classically styled mirror. This has subtle gold accents which harmonize beautifully with the two styles (intentional) of original hardware on the drawers. The gold is especially notable on that beautiful mirror, which is clear and free of chips or cracks. Lots of storage in the multitude of drawers below. All it needs is a plump little upholstered chair or tuffet and it's ready to go. The finish is lovely and in good shape. The top may have been redone; it has less sheen than the rest of the piece but that could also be due to wear, too.
This is a stunning thing, and this auction is for the two pieces ~ vanity and mirror ~ piece of a four piece bedroom set we've listed this week. We've shown the matching dresser and bed at the end of the string of photos on the right. Though this auction is for the vanity and mirror alone, we can definitely combine shipping and likely save money for most locales.
This piece and its mates were made by the esteemed firm of John Widdicomb Co., a Grand Rapids furniture company founded in 1897. The principal designer was Ralph Widdicomb (1898-1951) who won many awards for his innovative revivals incorporating former styles but using new and different designs and finishes. Though we're not experts, this appears to be from his French Empire-inspired line of mahogany furniture. It's exceptional. Top quality. Fine piece of furniture.
POTENTIAL USES: Vanity, dressing table, desk for the bedroom. Heirloom of the future.
ORIGIN: US, Grand Rapids, c. 1930s-40s
CONDITION: Fine condition, ready for use. No areas of concern noted.
