Ramesses II (Also known as Ramesses The Great) was the third pharaoh of Egypt in the nineteenth dynasty. He is typically regarded as Egypt's greatest, most powerful, and most celebrated pharaoh. His successors and Egyptians of later times called him the 'great ancestor'. Traditionally, he is believed to have been the Pharaoh of the Exodus. Born around 1303 BC, Ramesses was appointed Prince Regent by his father Seti I at the age of fourteen. It is believed that he took the throne in his early twenties and ruled Egypt from 1279 - 1213 BC, according to Manetho. He was once said to have lived to be 99, but it is more likely that he died around 90 or 91.

The early party of his reign was focused on constructing cities, monuments, and temples. Ramesses II celebrated an unprecedented fourteen sed festivals during his reign, more than any other pharaoh. As king, he led several expeditions north into the lands east of the Mediterranean, and to the south into Nubia. After his death, Ramesses was buried in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings. His body was later moved to a royal cache, where it was discovered in 1881. His remains are now on display in the Cairo Museum.

Cold Cast Bronze is a modern method of casting sculptures using a mixture of resin and powdered bronze for material. The finished sculpture has a surface which looks very similar to traditionally cast bronze, but tends to be much lighter.
