Provenance These prints formed part of a botanical guide written and published by Nicolas Francois Regnault and his wife, Geneviėve in 1774, "With the approval and privilege of the King [Louis XV]."  The entire work sold at auction in 1997 for more than $50,000.

Size / Format
  • Folio. Each sheet measures 18" x 12½"  (46.0 cm x 31.0 cm).
  • Each print is meticulously hand-colored and printed on watermarked paper.
  • The plate impressions are strong. With some slight variations, they measure 14¾" x 10¼" (37 cm x 26 cm)
  • The original text page, in French, accompanies each print, and it is an impressive document itself.
  • All the sheets are untrimmed with more than adequate margins for framing.
Condition Excellent. The prints are bright and clean, with the very occasional small spot.  The scanned images below are reliable. They are of the actual print you will receive and they have not been altered or enhanced in any way (aside from adjusting the size to show the entire print and the close up).
Remarks These are beautiful original hand-colored prints from an important and difficult to find work. They will only increase in value in future and, if well looked after, are an excellent investment. They were all purchased from established and reputable dealers and are absolutely guaranteed to be originals, more than 230 years old.
