This beautiful doll was made by J K Farnell in 1936 to commemorate the Coronation of King Edward VIII but because he abdicated to marry the woman he loved, Wallis Simpson, the Coronation never took place.
The doll has a finely moulded felt face with exquisite hand painted features. He has a flesh coloured stockinet type fabric body which was dressed in the wonderful, intricately detailed costume - which as far as I can tell, is complete and is as original as possible, with only very slight discolouration and minor wear.
I believe this to be a very rare doll and the only other example I have seen offered for sale was sold by Vectis in March 2004.
