Up for grabs and extremely rare is a Cuban Atomico Cubilete Dice Gambling Game. This game was brought to us to sell by one of our customers who brought it from Cuba. Supposedly, it belonged to Fidel Castro at some point although we can't confirm that.
This game measures approximately 10 3/4" tall and the base is around 10" in diameter. It is pretty heavy for its size weighing around 17 pounds and appears to be made of some type of cast iron. It comes with all of the dice and the game actually works! Up to 5 people can play it at a time and it works by pulling on one of the extending arms and letting the spring roll the dice. The bottom has the words "Patented in Santa Clara, Cuba" along with some other words and numbers that we can't make out and we're told that this item recently sold for around $2,000.00!!!!
Cubilete is an old and very traditional game in Cuba that is second in popularity only to Cuban dominoes. Everyone plays it -- from young school children to old grandmothers. Similar cubilete games are played in other Latin American countries, but the rules vary all over the map, with many cultures playing a version that is very much like the card game Poker. The Cuban game however is unique.
