Colombe au Soleil An Original Hand Signed Colour Lithograph 27/200 by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Published by the World Congress for General Disarmament and Peace, Paris 1962 Number 133/200 from the same Edition was sold by Christie's in 2007 for £4,500 (see details below)
An extremely rare Ebay opportunity to acquire an original limited edition hand signed lithograph by Picasso. The lithograph is titled Colombe au Soleil, it depicts the dove of peace rising over the broken weapons of war. The lithograph is signed and dated in print lower right and hand signed in pencil by Pablo Picasso below, it is numbered in pencil lower left. This is number 27 of an edition of 200, number 133 made £4,500 at Christie's in 2007 (see below) the lower numbers in any edition are obviously more desirable, the picture offered by Christie's was not in perfect condition and had minor condition issues similar to the present lot. The lithograph is in good condition however does have some issues. There is some rubbing to the paper lower left of center and with three or four very small punctures to the paper, essentially no more than pinholes, and with some minor repairs. There is light creasing to the paper to the left of center. There is some light localised foxing (less than 20 spots) to the right of the numbers. There are some light marks to the paper around the sun. There is some heavier marking to the top right corner. Overall the picture is in good condition, attractive and ready to hang. It is behind glass and presented in a modern wooden frame. Number 133 of the same edition was sold by Christie's in London on 25th October 2007, it realised £4,500. Art as an Investment In these uncertain financial times tangible assets such as gold and art are being recommended as a safer alternative to stocks and shares by many leading experts. “Companies go bust, artists don’t,” said David Douglas an Irish art expert of the recent economic turmoil. Damien Hirst's phenomenally successful sale at Sotheby's recently illustrates that high end art is able to prosper in an economic downturn. Less well publicised are the examples of the many thousands of lesser known artists whose work continues to increase in price when offered at auction.
