You are bidding on a rare and decorative piece of of Mary Hadley - like pottery with copper bottom.I believe the piece to be a small dish or coaster. It measures4 + 3/16” in diam. Weight is just under 1 lb. This is exactly like a Hadley pattern known as “Bouquet”.(To see other examples of this pattern you can check out the Hadley Pottery website to compare.)Main motif of this primitive style pattern is a slightly raised slip-like paint depicting a rounded seafoam green and cobalt blue bowl or basket with pedestal bottom filled cobalt blue ‘balls’ representingfruit or flowers. Surrounding the ‘bouquet’ is a halo of more ‘balls’ in the seafoam color, graduating in size and a ring of lighter blue aound the perimeter just inside the copper edge . The design appears to be ‘painted’ on in a slip-like manner giving a slightly raised surface where paint or glaze is appliedBackground color is white. It is ‘clad’ or wrapped in a piece of copper, appearing to be molded to the shape of the pottery. The way it is designed, the majority of the piece is approximately ¾” thick including the copper. The copper part becomes thinner beginning about 5/8” from the edge.Overall I would say the piece is in very good condition. It has definitely had some use and there are scuff marks on the pottery and some bubbly looking roughness which I believe naturally occurred in manufacture. The copper is not evenly patinated everywhere; there are marks and lines and spots from use. This is still a high quality decorative item.I have never personally seen any other Hadley Pottery made in such a manner and it is impossible to see a signature since the bottom is hidden by the copper so I cannot say for sure that it is Hadley but it would definitely blend well with other Hadley pieces. It looks like it definitely could be but I cannot confirm. Very nicely patinated. ** Check out my other auction to see more Hadley Pottery a (a larger piece that I would describe as a trivet.)
