You are buying the largest of the 2 Ramu masks: Ramu, Kore, Hand carved Hunting Charm Amulet Talisman Mask, collected 15 years ago.  9 ½” tall .

These are rare traditional figural pieces from the region of the remote Ramu river, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea collected on the premises on one of our trips and made from hand carved local wood. The Kore is a protective spirit. These small artifacts, as we mentioned above, were often carried by men in their bilums or canoes, as charms or amulets during a hunting or fishing expedition, or kept in the house for good luck, or worn as a pectoral ornament. Such a relic is thought to provide good fortune on the hunt as elsewhere, and is sometimes worn around the neck, and in this case, the wood has a handcarved loop.These piece were entirely hand carved out of local wood.
