This is the coveted Cox RR1. This engine was manufactured some time between 1958 and 1965. The RR1 uses a rear rotary valve intake rather than a reed valve in an attempt to achieve more power. It is very lightly used and is an excellent example of the type. Most RR1's on the market have a lot of wear on the blue tank anodizing. This engine has very light wear in a couple of spots. It includes the proper un-flanged spinner that only came on the RR1 and the earlier Space Hopper. (This is not well known but is documented. I believe this places this engine very early in the 1958-1965 production run. The 1956-1957 engines had a plain aluminum crankcase and the early spinner. There are later gold crankcase engines that feature the later flanged spinner.) I hope you will enjoy owning this engine as much as I have. We are really only custodians of these little gems and now it's your turn... Please ignore the Ebay shipping charge. Shipping costs will be calculated based on location shipped to. I do not profit from shipping and will ship by the most economical method to keep your costs low. h a silver crankcase like the first sample shown (1957-1958). Later, the crankcase was anodized yellow which contrasts nicely with the dark blue tank. Manufactured in 1957-1965 (#390) At
first glance, the RR1 looks like a fancy Golden Bee with small groves on the
blue anodized tank and on the nose of the crankcase. The disassembly
reveals the twin bypass cylinder and the rear rotary valve intake, which was
used instead of the reed valve, typical for the Bee type engines. As you can
see on the photo, there was no spring starter. Production ended in 1965 and
later engine designs reverted again to the simpler and cheaper reed valve
induction system. On Nov-08-09 at 12:47:40 PST, seller added the following information:
