Many people would find it hard to believe today, but about 1940 Eastman Kodak of Rochester, New York set out to build the world's most advanced precision 35mm camera. And they succeeded, with the Kodak Ektra, a very advanced (and expensive!!) camera that incorporated features that weren't found in competive cameras (read Leica and Contax) until about 25 years later. One of the features of the Ektra was interchangeable backs--if you were using one type of film, and wanted to use something else (say you were using black and white and wanted to switch to color) it was simple--just change the camera's back and you're ready to go with a different type film!
The back that's the subject of this auction is in excellent condition. Except for a few "Zeiss Bumps" on the rear (see photos) there are no scratches, dings or dents. If you've got an Ektra (there were only about 2000 ever made) here's a hard-to-find accessory to add to your collection.
