| This is a beautiful piece of the rare meteorite named Norton County. This meteorite fell on February 18, 1948 at 4:56 pm. A massive fireball was seen from the Mexican and Texas borders, heading due north, and the meteorite finally crashed in the farmland in Norton County Kansas, and even into Furnace County, Nebraska. The meteorite was found a few days later when a farmer almost drove his tractor into the large hole that a piece of over one ton made! Norton County is among the rarest of the meteorites, an Aubrite, which is a ca-poor enstatite-rich type of achondrite. Even though there is a large amount of this meteorite, virtually all of it is locked in museum collections, most in New Mexico. I completed an exchange with UNM and got a nice assortment of pieces from the collection. This specimen weighs 0.137 gram and is a beautiful small specimen. It is from the University of New Mexico Meteorite collection. The cube in the photo measures 1 cm. It is for measurement purposes only and not included in the auction. I am a meteorite dealer and fully gaurantee the authenticity of every meteorite and tektite specimen I sell. Be sure to see me in the March 1999 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine, I am featured in an article about meteorite hunters! I am also featured in Fortune Small Business magazine.
