Rare square format 1 & 2 Pound cast iron weights

A terrific pair of weights- presumably for use with a balance scale or similar scale where weights are hung? If anyone can clarify how these may have been used Id be most grateful. Just one of two sets- both very similar and yet with distinct differences- that I'm selling concurrently on eBay. Both sets are 1 and 2 pound weights and are in excellent used condition. This set has an interesting feature to the underside of the pound weight whereby an assay office or similar regulatory authority has added a small amount to the weight to correct the weight to exactly one pound. See that assay marks inside which I presume indicate these are English items? Please see the group picture below however be aware this auction if for the featured items only! Happy to combine postage however be aware these are heavy items and combining will save a little, not the usual savings that might be expected with lighter articles.
