Rare un-processed Lander Blue Spiderweb Turquoise
Offered here is a very rare, both in size and setting, magnificent example of natural Lander Blue Spider web Turquoise that is approximately 30 carats in size. This stone is natural in that it has not been stabilized, enhanced or fracture sealed with any products. It is just like it came from the earth with all of its faults in a natural way. Set in a 14k solid gold ring made by noted Navajo jeweler Sam Begay of Manuelito, NM. This is a very large ring that looks great on a man's hand. The pictures show the weight of the gold ring to be 34 grams and the stone is approximately 30 carats. The jeweler gave us an estimated size of 29.77 carats but stated it could be as large as 33 carats as he could not take it out of the ring to verify the exact carat weight. All natural, un-altered turquoise stones have small nicks and crevices within the matrix. Virtually all stones with a solid filled matrix have had a treatment of some sort to fill the matrix and stabilize the stone. This is a rare example of one that has not been treated.
This is a very rare example in that it is both natural, un-enhanced, un-altered or stabilized Lander Blue Spiderweb turquoise and set into a 14k gold ring setting. Only the very best of the Native American jewelry craftsmen ever worked in gold back in the 1970's. Very few could afford the metal and could not afford to make any mistakes with it. You may have noticed a similar ring one that is often seen in pictures of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on his right hand.
This is an excellent example of the rarest and most valuable Lander Blue Spiderweb turquoise in the world. This gem quality stone is about 1 1/4 inches long and over 3/4 inch wide. A fabulous, large stone of approximately 30 carats of the rarest turquoise in the world, where there was less than 100 pounds of it was ever mined. This ring is for collectors who know this is the rarest turquoise in the world. The Lander Blue mine had already closed by the time this ring was made from the private stock of Sam Begay, a noted Navajo jewelry maker.
The large ring is approximately 33mm long, about 24mm wide and is a man's size 10 ring. The Lander Blue turquoise stone is approximately 30 mm long, 20 mm wide and about 7 mm thick coming to approximately 30 carats in size. You will not find very many original un-treated, natural Lander Blue Spiderweb turquoise stones this large. On the scale the ring and stone weigh a total of 32 grams. The ring is signed SB for Sam Begay as shown in the pictures.
We purchased this ring in August, 1980 from Chino's at the Inn at the "Inn of the Mountain Gods" in Mescalero, NM on July 2, 1980. We have a copy of the original purchase receipt from Chino's specifying the ring to be 14k gold with Lander Blue turquoise by Sam Begay, Navajo. We also have an appraisal done on 09/2008 by noted Native American appraiser Michael J. McKissick of Waterbird Traders in Dallas, TX. You could say it is a late 1970's vintage ring as Chino's told us they had it for a few years prior to deciding to sell it in the store. When you can find good, natural, un-treated, un-altered Lander Blue Spiderweb turquoise you can expect to pay over $250 per carat for the stone.
With gold at $1,000 per ounce and Lander Blue Turquoise with a retail value of $225 to $250 per carat that comes to an estimated retail value of over $8,000. That does not even give any value to the Sam Begay workmanship. Our price on this ring is about $4,000 less than the gold and Lander turquoise are worth separately. Do not miss our deal on this ring as it can go off the market at anytime.
While I have owned the ring for 30 years, it has not been worn for about the past 20 years since I "out grew" it. It is a size 10 man's ring and I gained weight so that I have been wearing a size 11 since the late 1980's. It is in very nice to excellent condition. All natural, un-treated turquoise stones have small nicks and crevices within the matrix. Virtually all stones with a solid filled matrix have had a treatment of some sort to fill the matrix and stabilize the stone. This gold ring was cast to fit the stone and the stone was left in its natural state.
The ring is warranted to be as described above and will be supplied with the original purchase receipt and the most recent appraisal by Waterbird Traders. We have lots of other Dead Pawn and newer Native American jewelry listed. If we describe something as being special or state the name of the mine that a stone came from, we stand those statements with a full refund if it is proven to be false.
