Raymond Besse (1899-1969) Painting of Historic Paris

This is a magnificent painting by the listed French artist Raymond Besse. Besse arrived in Paris in 1916 and first exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1923. In 1924 he participated in the International Exposition in Tokyo. He later was commissioned by the City of Paris to paint scenes of Old Paris. This painting is perhaps one of these works as it depicts historic Paris with Montemarte in the background. It is signed at the lower left corner. The work is an oil on canvas, and features strong colors and brushstrokes that make it immediately captivating. The painting is in very good condition, though there are some very small losses and it would benefit from a cleaning. It measures approximately 14.5" x 24" (37cm x 61cm) unframed. It will make a wonderful addition to the collector of fine European art.
