This beautiful wearable Colombina mask is hand crafted in shades of red wine, white and gold with a crescent moon at the forehead. Gold glitter defines each eye and gold glitter and black swirls and curls accent the whole mask. The mask is edged in dark red, gold and metallic gold twisted braid and it ties on with black grosgrain ribbons.

The Mascareri of Venice formed their own guild in 1436, creating the masks worn by the celebrators of il Carnevale di Venezia, which ran from December 26th until Shrove Tuesday. Many patterned after the cast of the Commedia dell'Arte and often worn year round, masks were considered to be the safest hiding place, a place where noone would know who you were and anything could be done!
