At auction today is this vintage 20 pound Redwing Red Wing stoneware butter crock in excellent condition. This butter crock measures 8 1/2 inches in height and 11 1/2 inches in diameter, and weighs nearly 10 pounds for shipping purposes. It has not only the cobalt blue 20 lbs. marking enclosed in a rectangle, but also the coveted red wing (small wing) which positively identifies this butter crock as a product of the Red Wing Stoneware Company. This item was manufactured after the 1930's as evidenced by the smaller wing. It is a primitive, utilitarian piece that was used to contain butter.
CONDITION: Excellent. There is one flat 1/4 inch flake on the top rim as shown. That's it! No post-production cracks, hairlines, chips, or crazing. There is a one inch under the glaze bump on the bottom that was done at the factory, which we tried to show in the third scan with the finger, but it is so faint it doesn't photograph well. Some glaze runs, a few pops here and there also done in the firing process. As a bonus, there is a turkey dropping on the crock as shown. This jar is sound through and through - it rings nicely when tapped. There are very few of these Red Wing 20 pound butter crocks out there in this fine of a condition. Red Wing Stoneware by DePasquale, Peck, and Peterson places a price of $1100.00 to $1200.00 USD on this item in the 2006 guide as shown. It has inflated in value since then. To offer the buyer an exceptionally fair deal, this item has been discounted $200.00 from the outdated 2006 low book price because of the small wing and the flea-bite chip.
Buy it now for $995.00 USD and we will include free shipping and insurance anywhere in the USA and Canada. Payment is due via BANK CASHIERS CHECK, INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDER, or MONEY ORDER within 7 days of the end of the auction.
