Written by eminent Islamic Art scholar, Esin Atil, she reigns as the queen of Islamic art studies in America and the former curator of the Freer Art Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. This book served as the exhibition catalogue for the traveling exhibition organized by the Smithsonian Institution. Profusely illustrated with color pictures the book highlights the arts of the Mamluk Empire, emphasizing calligraphy, manuscripts, glass, metalwork & swords, ceramics, woodwork and textiles. Insights into the scientific investigations and techniques used to identify and date the works of art pictured. Outstanding narratives describe the historical context and dates in which the pieces were produced. A must reference book for collectors of Islamic art and antiques.
