On these six tracks, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare move beyond their signature reggae genre and explore funk, R&B, heavy metal, and rap--often within the same song. Enlisting a top-notch group of backing musicians--including funk legends Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell, vocalists Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, Shinehead, and Bernard Fowler, along with versatile producer Bill Laswell--Sly and Robbie stir up a cauldron of genre-bending dance tunes, including the dance floor hit "Boops (Here to Go)." Anyone expecting the reggae rhythms of Sly & Robbie's typical work is in for a shock. A brutal beat tattoos RHYTHM KILLERS (the title says it all.) In this very mixed bag, hard-rock axe work rubs up against funky wah-wah guitars while a string section soars above pounding drums. Starting things off is a mostly faithful cover of the Ohio Players' classic "Fire," the refrain of which ("got me burning/got me burning") reappears a few songs later on the extended funk workout of "Let's Rock." Another cover, "Yes We Can-Can," a hit for the Pointer Sisters, gets the rap treatment. The title track is perhaps the most distinctive, a molten stew of Shinehead's frantic toasting, quivering strings, and hard-hitting percussion.

ABOUT MY GRADING

Because I am also a collector, I grade much more strictly than most ebay sellers. We've all bought "excellent" condition discs that turn out to be scratched beyond recognition. I would not do that to my customers.

MINT: As new.
MINT-: A few light, teeny tiny marks visible at close inspection that prevent disc from being called "MINT".
NM: Near Mint. A few small light marks, but still a super disc, very clean and highly collectable.
EXC: Excellent. Some small light marks/wear and possibly a *small* and *light* scuff or two. Still quite nice, and a collectable quality disc.
VG+. Very Good Plus. A listening copy that plays flawlessly, but has typical "used CD" marks/wear/scuffs. My "VG+" is far better than most ebay sellers' "excellent".
