This wonderfully
innovative, abstract painting by renowned artist Richard Ray Cornwell proves to
be a testament to his versatility as an artist.
In this particular painting Cornwell created an absolutely intriguing
composition with limitless interpretations.
A mysterious overlapping of blackness gives way to bold strokes of teal
and white swirling into each other before receding back into darkness. The powerful brushstrokes add fluid movement
throughout the painting, which measures at 16¼” x 20¼.” The painting is signed by Cornwell in the
lower right corner reading, “Ray,” a signature characteristic of his modern
work. This is truly a gorgeous piece of art that is an exemplary piece of
modern artwork that would make an attractive addition to any room, office, or
collection at modest price.
Renowned maritime artist Richard R. Cornwell was born on May
4, 1938 in Port Huron, Michigan. His
interest in art began at a very early age, drawing inspiration from his
upbringing near the water. His
professional career in art began with a four-year apprenticeship in advertising
design and private study in fine arts.
For thirty years he was a recognized and celebrated illustrator for
Freuhauf Corporation, General Motors, and Ford, while continuing to develop his
talent and passion for painting through his private projects.
Acrylics and Watercolors are Cornwell’s favorite media to
work in. He arrives at his final
compositions after creating hundreds of small pen and ink sketches, both on
site and in his studio. He takes great
joy in receiving feedback on his work because he strives to incite the viewers
to feel the same reverence for his subject matter as he does.
Richard Cornwell’s distinguished work is included in
corporate and private collections throughout the U.S. most notably in the
Dossin Great Lakes Maritime Museum on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan, and the
Port Huron Historical Museum, in Port Huron Michigan. He has been represented by numerous
galleries, including Out of Hand Gallery in Saugatuck, Michigan and The Art
Gallery in Westland, Michigan. He is
also a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Treasure Coast Art
Association, and the Hilton Head Art League.
He currently lives and works in South Lyon producing original paintings
in his unique style.
