Well, here it is ! This is the fifth Ricky bass I've owned and played and by far, this has been the most comfortable and best sounding of them all. That includes a 1970 4001 and Chris Squire #71. This bass has been resting in it's case since 2003 in my smoke free home. Clearly it needs to go to a home where it will be used and loved on. I'm just not going to be playing bass any more so now is the time to part with it. The manufacture code translates to Oct. 1992 so it has an excellent vintage. All the goodies are in place - the toaster and horseshoe pickups, the dot fingerboard, the gap tooth tail piece, the walnut head stock side strips. Note how dark those walnut strips are and compare to others. Beautiful ! That headstock is also a good 1/2" longer than standard models of this bass which complies faithfully with the specs of 1963 as I'm told. I just like the look of that shape in that proportion. I haven't touched anything inside and am not about to. I will assume that NOTHING inside has been messed with, re-wired, soldered or anything suspicious. Everything works as intended. Pots are not scratchy. Pickups both produce great tone and volume. Action is as you would expect - glorious! In all the years I've owned this bass, nothing has been done regarding neck adjustment. The only modifications that have been done to it are my installation of flat wound strings and making a new nut out of bleached bone. I have the original plastic nut and it will be included. I rounded the corners on the bone nut so getting hacked on the side of the thumb is eliminated. There are two very minor hits on the headstock. I've pictured them both. There are also the usual but light shirt buttom pressings on the back and a few similar pressings on the front. These were included on the instrument when I bought it back in 1994. There are NO belt buckle gouges fortunately. The back of the neck is smooth and ding free. The only other consideration is the beginnings of separation of the body where the neck joins. I've also included a pic of that area. I'm told this is rather common on these basses but nobody can tell me why. I noticed it years ago and nothing has changed or gotten worse so I just left it as is. This bass comes with the desired silver finish case. It is used. It has some exterior scuffs as well as the handle beginning to lose some of it's leatherette wrap. The hinges and latches are all in good working order. This is a short running auction so please don't delay in placing a bid. I'll be happy to answer any questions regarding this bass. I can ship this instrument to the continental USA ONLY. Sorry. Truely sorry. Thank you for looking. |
