Roman Bronze Boar Statue: Knife Handle 200 BC!

You are bidding on an exceptionally rare - bronze Figurine from German Roman / Celtic Pre-history, 200 BC - 200 AD found in the Black Forest area, many years ago.

A lovely Bronze Boar - it shows an animal sat on its belly with outstretched forelegs, upturned head, in a state of stimulation!

The Boar is a very potent Celtic Symbol of Fertility and Power. The Celts used the animal as part of their military Standards as well as on War Charriots.

This figurine was in fact a knife handle in antiquity- remnants of the iron blade are still visible at the tail end!

Only five bronze Boar figurines have been published from the UK! For more literature search see:
Celtic Britain and Ireland - Art and Society, by Lloyd and Jennifer Laing. Published by BCA London.

Length: 1 7/8 inches.
Height: 3/4 inches.

Weight 31 g.

Fully guaranteed ancient as described; from a German private collection. If an acknowledged expert from your country ever disputes its authenticity, I shall refund you in full.

MY AUTHENTICITY PLEDGE:

Whilst buying ancient art remains very pleasurable and a real "credit crunch proof" investment, it is vitally important that your purchase is authentic. Artifactsuk Ltd. employs a number of experienced consultants who specialize in authenticating ancient art to offer you the necessary protection, and in addition employs, wherever pertinent and economically feasible, scientific tests to confirm this. The most important such test is thermoluminescence or otherwise known as the TL test. TL is very useful and fairly accurate or dating terracotta (clay) statues and other ceramics. This test was developed and pioneered by Oxford University, and we employ these facilities whenever necessary. TL cannot date a non ceramic item or an unfired ceramic. Radiocarbon (C14) is the only other acknowledged scientific test which can date organic material such as wood, leather and paper. However it must be remembered that both these tests are expensive and therefore cost prohibitive for the smaller, less expensive items(cost of TL about $350). All my artefacts carry a money back guarantee regarding authenticity. If an acknowledged expert such as an auction house specialist, or an appropriately applied TL test ever challenges the authenticity of one of the items or coins purchased from me, then I give a written guarantee to compensate such a buyer in full. This written pledge is stated on all my COAs. Every item sold is accompanied by such a COA. Do not buy from anyone who is not prepared to give you a similar pledge. Beware - probably the most commonly faked items are coins, Apulian and Chinese ceramics!
