Romantic Vintage Satin Damask Fabric Robins Egg Blue

Sometimes the best words to sell something are....ROBINS EGG BLUE! :) I've squandered away thousands and thousands of vintage textiles that I couldn't part with, but along with some good anti hoarding books, I'm making my way to being able to part with some of my very best fabrics. Yes, the ones that are so rare that I treat them like gold. This one is as high end as you could get for the period, a very glamorous and chic gold satin with robins egg blue french swags and flowers, simple and understated, yet sophisticated and completely over the top. The robins egg blue is really the color of a Estee Lauder box, so if your a lover of that color then be prepared to really be blown away when you see it in person. Its never before used yardage from the 40's, it was found at an estate sale in Shrewsbury New Jersey in a 1800's mansion. It was home to a 96 year old woman who was moving to a nursing home. She was the quintessential fabric pack rat. She had a 3rd floor attic that was all bedrooms, filled with closets of sewing projects, some done, some never completed and some never started. She was in a wheelchair and seemed to have all her wits about her, but you could see that the downstairs had become her home, a prisoner from her grand upper floors. A makeshift bathroom became part of the kitchen and all the remnants of adaptable equipment we all dread to ever have in our homes when we get old. A reminder of how precious life is. I shook her hand and thanked her for my treasures, and she winked at me. She held my hand during our shake, her cold hands feeling without life, and wrinkles, most likely each one graciously earned. I couldn't help but feel so sad for our old that linger on, when they are forced to be cared for and ultimately leave the places they raised their families and called home. I envision a pain free world, and try to make heads and tails of the whys :( It was not 2 months later that I ran into her home health aid at the supermarket, and was told my old fabric friend had passed in her sleep in the nursing home. A victim at 96 of not old age, but a broken heart, separated from her beloved home that was a part of her.  It measures 48 wide x 2 yards long.
