Romney Raw Wool Gray Coated Fleece Spinning ~ EDISON ~

Here it is … Edison’s 2008 fleece!  We saved our best for last!  This is our last fleece available until 2010.  Due to its large size, we are offering this beautiful fleece as two halves;   one half auctioned last week and this is the second half.   

Our pure-bred Romney ram, Edison, produced this beautiful gray 2008 fleece.  Edison was coated and his fleece has been heavily skirted.  The resulting wool contains little vegetable matter.  This half of his fleece weighs 4 lbs and the staple length is 5.5 to 7.5-inches.   Edison’s fleece is predominantly a lustrous gray with shades of silver-gray and light charcoal interspersed.  The wool transitions to medium brown / heather brown on the outer tips.  The combination of color, luster, and waviness give a rich appearance to his wool.  

Romney fleeces are known for their ease of spinning and uniform crimp.  Romney wool is also noted for its relative low lanolin content.  This results in a higher yield of clean wool.  We provide the fleece in its raw state which allows the wool to be spun “in the grease” if desired.  Although this is a 2008 fleece, it feels no different to us, than our 2009 fleeces.  It has been stored in its own bag in a dry location. 

Grace Valley Farms is located in the Clark’s Fork of the Yellowstone River valley in south central Montana.  We are a small, family-operated farm. Our sheep enjoy the pastures watered by snowmelt from the nearby Beartooth Mountains.  The pastures have been seeded with a wide variety of grass, legume, and forb species to provide optimal nutrition. 

Buyer pays shipping anywhere in the continental US;  this covers shipping costs and materials.  Local pick-up is available;  we will deliver free to the Billings, MT area.  This fleece is available to international bidders, provided your country laws allow fleece imports from the U.S.  Please recognize international shipping can be quite expensive and subject to piracy.  Buyer assumes this risk. 

The photos we use are of the fleece listed in the auction;  we do not use generic or typical photos.

The fleece has been split in two roughly equivalent halves from neck to britch so the beautiful colors appear in both halves.
