This is potentially an extremely rare Australian made mirror- and an exceptionally good quality piece to-boot. It bears an intriguing paper label from the Royal Adelaide 1947 exhibition where it was entered under category section C division 1. It is marked as a ‘shield pink Shakespeare’- and appears to have won the silver medal!
The mirror is indeed very beautiful- with a soft salmon pink tinted glass with a striking portrait of William Shakespeare etched into the glass from the reverse in what appears to be an innovative and very effective process. It may be partially tinted or printed as well as etched- giving a very attractive and interesting effect as shown.
A very faint rubber stamp reads (as best as I can tell) REUBEN LAWS Glass Tinters (or merchants) or similar- with an Adelaide address following. This is very faint- see pics)
This would make a terrific feature mirror for a living room, entrance hall, mens room, den etc.. and is indeed also a significant piece of Australian manufacturing history. Perfect condition with original hanging chain to back- ready to wall mount.
