These are split ribbon cables. They are actually a ribbon cable that many computer techs prefer, but the ribbon is split and put inside a clear flexible vinyl "tube". It provides the performance of a ribbon cable with the benefits of round cables, less clutter and increased air flow.

Recommended for the high speed hard drives. Allows the increase in the burst data transfer rate to 133 mbs, from the 100 mbs or less that older drives required.* The MUST-HAVE accessory for the fastest type of ide hard drives being manufactured. It's not enough to replace the hard drive, you need to replace the cable with the type recommended for the Ultra ATA 133 standard, and compatible with the ATA 100 and 66 standard as well. These can also be a benefit for the non-ATA 133 drives by reducing the noise and interference generated through regular IDE cables. So it can improve the performance of ANY IDE drive!
